I would suggest asking your parents if you were sick wouldn't they take you to a dr? so what's different? a pet is a life form and why would want it to suffer when it could be treated. Neglecting a pet and letting it suffer is animal abuse and against the law, they need to responsible for the pet since they have it in the house.
